The Musings and Meanderings of a Trans-Woman

I am an activist for gender rights and equality. If you object then don't follow me. If, however, you are a supporter of equality for all people then please, join me on my quest.

Anonymous asked: naw, honey, you make trans look bad all by yourself. :)

No idea what this is in regards too. Clue me in on that and maybe, just maybe we can have a meaningful discussion.

Catholic Bishops Send Letter Criticizing House GOP's Cuts To Food Assistance, Other Safety Net Programs | ThinkProgress

stfuhypocrisy:

tinfoilandtea:

The proposed cuts to programs in the budget reconciliation fail this basic moral test. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states it is the proper role of government to “make accessible to each what is needed to lead a truly human life: food, clothing, health, work, education and culture, suitable information, the right to establish a family, and so on” (no. 1908). Poor and vulnerable people do not have powerful lobbyists to advocate their interests, but they have the most compelling needs.

As you pursue responsible deficit reduction, the Catholic bishops join other faith leaders and people of good will urging you to protect the lives and dignity of poor and vulnerable families by putting a circle of protection around these essential programs and to refrain from cutting programs that serve them.

Wake me up when the GOP actually cares.

They care when the Catholic church praises them for being against gay marriage or abortion, but the second they condemn them for not helping the poor, the GOP will ignore it.

I really hope the GOP enter oblivion soon. They have succeeded at evils that many of the worlds cruelest dictators have been unable to achieve.

you know, there were several media responses to this video calling it “racy” and even comparing it to porn. the youtube comments are mostly people calling her trashy and guys boasting that they’re getting off to it
the video consists of nicki minaj doing tame cute dances in a few different swimsuits on a beach (quite possibly a callback to her childhood; the ethnic makeup of the backup dancers reminded me of trinidad)
which just goes to show you that black women are coded and read as hyper-sexual, always, and lord help a black woman who wants to wear a damn bikini on a beach — she can’t be cute or have fun, she’s being “pornographic”

there is nothing racy about that video, but of course since she is a black artist and a female hip hop artist at that, then they will degrade her no matter what.

its her in relatively conservative bathing suits doing cutesy pin up poses.
but thats a black body right there so
SEXUAL BEAST

I am not a fan of her music, but still, this is not sexual. White people suck.

I have a friend who is scheduled to graduate from Dickinson College next year, but her parents disowned her for being transgender. Most important priorities are a place to live, work, tuition assistance, and access to continuing her HRT. Plz reblog.

Abraham Lincoln Filed a Patent for Facebook in 1845

Nate St. Pierre writes:

Lincoln was requesting a patent for “The Gazette,” a system to “keep People aware of Others in the Town.” He laid out a plan where every town would have its own Gazette, named after the town itself. He listed the Springfield Gazette as his Visual Appendix, an example of the system he was talking about. Lincoln was proposing that each town build a centrally located collection of documents where “every Man may have his own page, where he might discuss his Family, his Work, and his Various Endeavors.”

He went on to propose that “each Man may decide if he shall make his page Available to the entire Town, or only to those with whom he has established Family or Friendship.” Evidently there was to be someone overseeing this collection of documents, and he would somehow know which pages anyone could look at, and which ones only certain people could see (it wasn’t quite clear in the application). Lincoln stated that these documents could be updated “at any time deemed Fit or Necessary,” so that anyone in town could know what was going on in their friends’ lives “without being Present in Body.”

A patent request for Facebook, filed by Abraham Lincoln in 1845.

I’ve long argued Facebook is working towards natural or timeless (for lack of better words) human interaction. That their central idea is relevant in any age should not be surprising.

(Though it is astounding Lincoln was imagining a nearly identical privacy system.)

Don’t Expel Bullied Gay Teen!
Darnell “Dynasty” Young has been bullied for months — it has sometimes gotten so bad that he has thought about suicide.
His mother contacted the school but instead of taking appropriate action, asked Darnell to “tone down” his accessories. That is victim blaming.
Not knowing what to do, his mother sent him to school with a stun gun because he didn’t feel safe. On April 16, 6 students surrounded him threatening violence. He pulled out the stun gun and raised it in the air, setting off an electric charge. He did not use it on anyone — he simply scared them away, protecting himself.
Young was soon arrested and taken away in handcuffs. He is now facing expulsion from the school.
Please tell Arsenal Technical High School to not expel Young — who hurt no one and was just trying to protect himself — and to change their school’s bullying policy to offer more protection for LGBT youth. No one should feel unsafe at school!
